Your Skin is What You Eat

In the seventies, there was a Saturday morning public service announcement that featured a cartoon character called "Timer." In the commercial, he sang a song about how everything you eat creates you. He discussed food as the building block of your body. While this commercial didn't mention skin specifically, it should be included in the "you are what you eat" thought process.

Your skin is the largest organ you have. Your skin keeps detrimental objects, germs and parasites out of your body. Your skin keeps your vital organs from being exposed and allows you to absorb falls and blows. On top of all that, you demand that your skin look and feel soft and smooth. in order to meet all these demands for the many years you have it, your skin needs the vitamins and minerals provided by fresh fruits and vegetables.

Fruits and vegetables that are high in antioxidants have the most beneficial effect on your skin. Antioxidants help keep skin looking young by bonding with cancer causing free radicals. These fruits include tomatoes, blackberries, strawberries and blueberries. Vegetables and fruits that are high in fiber, like spinach and apples, are also good for your skin.
