Vitamin E and Your Skin

If you have watched a skin care commercial lately, you have heard about free radicals. Many folks don't know what free radicals are or how important they are to understand in our fight against cancer.

Your molecules must have a certain amount of protons and electrons in order to survive. Free radicals are molecules that are missing an electron and try to bond with other cells in order to take their electron--thereby ruining another cell. These damaged cells proliferate and can result in cancer. They also make your skin look older and less healthy.

Antioxidants, like vitamin E, are able to bond with free radicals before they start ruining other cells and fill in for the missing electron. In doing so, they can help prevent cancer, make your skin look younger, and keep you healthier. There is further evidence that vitamin E may play a role in curing or preventing heart disease, eye disorders like macular degeneration and cataracts, as well as cognitive problems.

Vitamin E can be found in capsules, creams and powders. It can also be found if foods like almonds, spinach, and mango. Be sure to check with your primary care physician for the best way for you to take it.
