Vitamin A and Your Skin

With all of the surgical options available to us to make our skin tighter, less wrinkled and more youthful looking, we often overlook the easiest ways to improve our complexion--vitamins. Vitamins like C , E and A all help us retain a youthful glow, fight cancer, reduce wrinkles and tighten our skin.

Vitamin A, like E and C, is an antioxidant. As such, it reduces the amount of cell damage caused by free radicals. This not only helps your skin but also reduces your risk of cancer. As an antioxidant, it also protects your skin from the ravages of various pollutants.

When you don't have enough vitamin A in your diet, you can get dryness in your scalp and develop abscesses that result in acne, bumpy skin and boils. Of course, too much vitamin A is also dangerous, so ask your primary care physician what the right amount is for you.

Vitamin A can be found in carrots, liver, sweet potato, spinach and more. In addition to helping your skin, it also helps your eyes and helps you sleep better. If you don't get enough vitamin A from the foods you eat, try adding a vitamin supplement to your diet.
