Anti-Aging Foods

Many of the foods that you eat as part of a balanced diet to lose weight are also great anti-aging foods. Fiber and protein are the best foods for staving off hunger, and they also offer significant anti-aging benefits.

Produce

Fruits and vegetables are low in calories and fat and their high fiber content also makes them filling. But research shows that fruits and vegetables are also some of the most effective anti-aging foods.

Berries are rich in antioxidants, which combat free radicals that cause cell damage and chronic inflammation, two common indicators of aging. Berries are also full of vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that helps maintain a youthful complexion.

Leafy greens are especially rich in vitamin K, a nutrient that helps reduce bone loss and prevent fractures. They also contain lutein and zeaxanthin, which help protect your eyes from the damage caused by ultraviolet light.

Protein

It's always important to eat a diet rich in lean proteins, but the anti-aging effects become even more important to people in their 40s and older. Protein helps build and maintain lean muscle mass, which keeps your metabolism going strong and prevents weight gain. Protein is also important for keeping your bones strong, as calcium can't build bone if you're not getting enough protein.

Anti-aging foods that contain plenty of lean protein include skinless chicken and turkey breast, lean beef and pork, eggs, beans, seafood, and low-fat dairy.

Making lean proteins and healthy fruits and vegetables an integral part of your diet will help you reduce your risk for disease and maintain your weight and fitness level for years to come.
